Each day we learn more and more from our dogs about our own personal
walk with Jesus Christ. No one really considers just how much a dog can emulate Jesus in our lives.
1. A dog forgives unconditionally. Just as
Jesus forgave us for our sins, our dogs forgive us for our mistakes. They
don't hold grudges, and they don't bring up the mistakes we made in the past. They only care about pleasing us
and our happiness. In 1 John 1:9, God tells us that, "If we confess our sins before the Lord then he is faithful and
just to forgive those sins."
2. Our dogs accept us for who we are, as long as we accept them.
They don't pick and choose their owners, they don't reject us for our mistakes, and they don't choose to accept us based on
our merits, color, creed, or gender... as long as we accept them. Jesus accepts us as his children regardless of
our shortcomings. The ever famous John 3:16 tells us that, "For God so loved the world that he sent his only son, and
whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
So it's really quite simple. Our dogs show us the love of Christ by accepting us regardless of our faults,
as long as we accept our dogs as ours, and that is exactly what Jesus wants: For us to accept him as our saviour so we
can be with him eternally.
3. Our dogs show us how to rely on Jesus to overcome obstacles everyday.
By relying on us as their leaders, they follow us without question. They follow us with a trusting heart, and
rely on us for everything in life. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ my Savior who strengthens
me." We have never had a dog that has questioned whether our judgement for their well being was sufficient.
That is a great example for us in our lives and walk with Christ.
Often times, when we start to rely
on Christ to help us overcome obstacles, when we truly begin to trust in him, then the enemy attacks. Satan throws a
world of lies and deception at us that only the love of Christ can protect us from. Is it just a coincidence
that dog spelled backwards is God? Probably so, but what an awesome example they give of the love of Christ...unconditional
love, forgiveness, and protection, if we only reach out and take the gift that He offers. May God bless
and keep all of you!!
